work applying historical rephotography to the documentation of
environmental
change in the western U.S. Examples will be provided using photographs
taken in Utah by Timothy O'Sullivan with the King Survey in 1869, and
by William Henry Jackson with the Hayden Survey in 1870. Two of the
O'Sullivan photographs he has worked with are included in the

Immigrants on Tin Pan Alley: Cafecito Hour lecture by
Larry Hamberlin
Middlebury College—In the early years of the 20th-century
American popular songs were "ethnic novelties": humorous portrayals of
immigrants arriving to the U.S. The best of writers of those songs were
themselves immigrants or children of immigrants. Thus the songs can be
better heard as immigrants' expressions of the contradictions they
faced in bringing Old World customs to the New World. Music professor
Hamberlin brings these songs to life with illustrations at the piano.

Rokeby Museum—Volunteers are the
lifeblood of most nonprofit organizations and that includes
Rokeby Museum who will host its annual orientation for new volunteers.
Volunteers will complete a brief training program that introduces them
to the family that called
Rokeby home and the 200 years of history they lived here. Volunteers
use historic photographs, documents, art, and artifacts from the
Museum's collection to understand
and interpret the past. Guides share what they have learned with
visitors at least two tour days per month throughout the season (June
to October). Rokeby is a National Historic
Landmark Underground Railroad site - one of the best-documented such
