Dead Creek Wildlife Day
Activities are especially for people who enjoy hunting, fishing, birdwatching or learning about Vermont's diverse wildlife. Events include field trips, illustrated talks, and more! Wildlife-related exhibitions, kids' crafts, building bluebird boxes. All day long see Snow and Canada geese overhead as they head south for the winter. Free shuttle to nearby field events. 10 am-4 pm. Burlington
James Wakefield Rescue Row Lake Champlain Maritime Museum—Annual youth rowing race. The race is named after James Wakefield who was responsible for the courageous rescue of the passengers and crew of the canal schooner General Butler December 9, 1876 after it crashed into the Burlington breakwater during a fierce winter gale. Race will consist of over one hundred youth, rowing nine, 32' and 25' rowing boats in a series of heats along the Burlington Waterfront. Boats were built by Vermont high school and middle school students at the maritime Museum. Crews will hail from Chittenden and Addison County schools as well as from the coast of Maine, and Massachusetts. Races begin at 9:30. Burlington Community Boat House. 802-475-2022. www.lcmm.org

"Maritime Yarns" Storytelling Festival
Lake Champlain Maritime Museum—First annual Lake Champlain Storytelling Festival will take place at the Maritime Museum and out on Lake Champlain. Maritime Yarns will showcase of the region's best storytellers, historians, and fireside yarn-spinners and give them a chance to share their knowledge of the lake. Morning sessions will focus on families; afternoon sessions will take storytellers and listeners onto the lake in tour boats, pilot gigs, or canoes. Opportunities for the public to record their own stories about the lake, and a special program of Native American games, dancing, and storytelling for children. Saturday evening, enjoy a "Fish Tale Dinner" at the Red Mill Restaurant and relax with more stories by the fireside. 802-475-2022. www.lcmm.org
