Film Screening and Discussion About Race and the Challenges of
Transracial Adoption in Vermont
Vermont Children's Aid Society and Vermont Public Television announces
this community-wide event featuring a premiere screening of the highly
acclaimed documentary film "Living On the Fault Line, Where Race and
Family Meet", by
Vermont filmmaker Jeff Farber followed by a facilitated panel
discussion. The film explores the intersection where family love meets
racial injustice in the experience of transracial families
created through adoption and profiles nine Vermont transracial
families, revealing the complex and emotional story of institutional
inequities and racial stereotyping intruding into the haven of family
and the community beyond. The facilitated by a panel will include both
local and state-wide personalities: Robert Appel, Executive Director
of the Vermont Human Rights commission, Alice Siegriest, Director of
Camp For Me and a social worker with Vermont Children's Aid Society and
Arlinda Wickland, and Sue Schmidt who are both parents

Bag Lunch History Talk: Quilted Colors
Henry Sheldon Museum—Presented by Suzanne Douglas who will
begin the talk with an overview of 19th century quilting patterns and
techniques. Quilts from the Museum's collection will be featured.
The talk will then focus on a selection of contemporary quilts that
Douglas has created. Color is an important element in her quilts; she
will demonstrate how color can create movement in quilts and draw your
eye across
the surface of a quilt. This talk is offered in conjunction with the
Sheldon's new exhibit "Piecemakers: Vermont Country Quilts 1830 to the
Present" which features quilts from the Museum's permanent collection
